"Go afield with a good attitude, with respect for the wildlife you hunt and for the forest and fields in which you walk. Immerse yourself in the outdoor experience. It will cleanse your soul and make you a better person." Quote by Fred Bear 1902-1988
About Me
Who I am...
My name is T. Chris and I am an outdoorsman. You wouldn't know it if you were to see me during the week at my job, but hang around me for a few minutes or ask anyone around me what I am talking about and it is limited to just a few topics, my family, hunting, or fishing. I grew up working on the family farm in Southwest Oklahoma. The benefit of this was that I had ample access to prime hunting and fishing locations from a very young age and my father and grandfather both taught me everything they knew about being a safe and effective outdoorsman.
Where I am....
I am not on the farm any longer as I went back to school and received an MBA from Oklahoma State University and I now work in the field of accounting and finance. I periodically move locations because of my job, so I have lived in multiple locations in Texas and spent 4.5 years in Eastern Europe (Budapest, Hungary), but currently I'm in Houston.
My Family...
I am married to my college sweetheart and have two wonderful daughters. Like most families today, everyone is moving at the speed of light and is engaged in so many school and after school activities that there are hardly any quiet nights or weekends.
Why a blog....
I came up with the idea over the holiday break. Every year, the months of December and January are times of reflection and planning for me. I reminisce about the year that has past and begin to plan the upcoming year's major hunting and fishing trips. I have been chronicling my outdoor outings with video and pictures the last several years, but I really wanted to relay the stories of my hunting and fishing trips to my family and friends more effectively. I had never really considered a blog, but inspiration hit in January of 2011 as the idea came to me in a flash. As I began to research blogging, I was amazed at the tools available and the community of bloggers that existed.
What you should expect from this blog....
I plan to blog on those outdoor activities that I am pursuing and I would describe myself as a seasonal outdoorsman. I like to fish in the Spring and Summer, I will be turkey hunting in the spring, I like to dove hunt in September, I bow hunt deer in October and November, and in between I am cooking wild game. The last several years I have began to plan for a big game hunt in Colorado. Maybe this is the year I actually do it!
What I think I will gain from this blog....
Sometimes I need a little direction and I believe this blog will focus me on learning new things. You really learn things best when you are supposed to teach them, or in this case write about them. I hope to engage in more outdoor activities than I would otherwise because, well I need to be able to blog about them. Nobody wants to read a blog about a guy that never did anything, now would they? Besides, this is going to be fun!
